Talking is good for relationships. This is as true in classrooms as in faculty meetings, in families as in communities.
Frequent communication also builds understanding and trust. And trust is exactly what you need when dealing with Cyber Security issues. Since security risks can be reduced but never eliminated, it is inevitable that a crisis will eventually occur. At that point, you need your staff and community to trust you and remain patient while the problem is being dealt with.
This section of the website contains a slide show that you can download and adapt to meet your own needs. Our only requirement is that you keep the last three slides intact and included in your presentation, whether you are projecting the slides or handing out printed copies. Other than that, feel free to edit, add, or delete slides in order to give more details about your own situation and plans.
This slide show is intended for use in public meetings. It does not assume any technical knowledge or training. Many of the slides have accompanying “notes” that you can use as talking points. However, if you are a non-technical person, it would be wise to prepare yourself by talking with your district CTO about the current status and plans concerning Cyber Security.
You might also want to frame your discussion of Cyber Security with:
- an overview of your district’s vision of the value that technology can add to the learning process;
- some discussion of any security issues that your district may have already experienced, and;
- an introduction of the ways you are moving to deal with security in the future.
This slide show, and this entire section of the Cyber Security website, is a work in progress. If you have thoughts about how to improve it or if you have examples of other materials you’ve found useful that you’d like to share, please let us know – we’d like to include them here for others to use as well.
